This Little Girl Lost In Marrakech: Sightseeing & Sweltering

As the title of this post suggests I'm going to give you a quick recap of my amazing trip to Marrakech on the blog today - its also highly ironic as we did indeed get lost (this happened pretty much every day) in and around the city, with its winding back alleys.

What I took away most from the trip is that Marrakech is such a study in contradictions; for example the main square -  the Djemaa El Fna - is a tourist trap from hell (think filthy, smelly, full of snake charmers, beggers, and men selling tat) whilst there are some oasis's of calm to be found like the tranquil Jardin Marjorelle and Hammans. Likewise in the Medina - the old part of town where we stayed - Riad's are jam-packed next to each other, but in the new part of town hotels are huge and luxurious, their manicured gardens sprawling over several acres.

There's no better way to experience this contradiction than by walking it, but in order to orientate ourselves on arrival (that idea didn't work out too well) we chose the comfort of the hop on hop off tourist bus as it was 36 degrees that day.

We started by visiting the Jadrin de la Menara, before heading to the Tombeaux Saadiens - Sultans Tombs - which were well worth a visit thanks to their beautiful mosaics. Next we stopped by the main square where my travelling companion, Andy was attacked by one of the many men with monkeys (we avoided them like the plague the rest of the trip) before heading to see Bab Agnaou - one of the nineteen gates of Marrakech, built in the 12th century and still standing today.

We then headed back to our Riad (more on that in later) to enjoy a meal big enough for a family of eight before heading to bed, worn out from our 3 am airport run the day before.

Unreal Fur launches in the UK

With the cold weather setting in this post has two purposes; hopefully its not only practical but will make you feel super warm & toasty inside too!
Unreal Fur, which debuted in Australia in 2012 launches in the UK this season with a collection of high quality faux fur pieces just in time for winter. Whilst faux fur has been around for a while, until recently there has been a lack of stylish options available but Unreal Fur aims to change all that by sourcing the highest quality faux furs to create soft and luxurious to the touch pieces - as opposed to the standard polyester versions currently available on the market.
For A/W 13 collection highlights include the ‘Furry Floss’ boxy jacket, the 'Orient' evening jacket and the longer 'Wonderlust' coat which is available in shaggy black, cream and grey as pictured below. Snoods, long length and thread through scarves are also available in the same tones and I'd advise using them them to update last year's plain wool coat, or wear over your party dress - Gatsby style. My favourite piece though? The reversible vest in tan and cream is a great investment buy, I'd wear it now for winter's romantic Russian gypsy trend, then add a floppy hat & ankle boots for a folksy, festival-ready look come summer.
Unreal Fur stockists include ASOS and My Wardrobe and prices start from £49.

Mixing Fashion & Workwear in Autumn/Winter 2013

I’m often asked where the best place is to find great women’s workwear and although I’m eager to answer the question, I’m also just as nervous! This is because most people’s idea of office attire - pencil skirts, blazers, and button up shirts - probably does not gel with my vision.

Having always worked in more of a 'fashion' than formal environment I'll often choose trends over tailoring and though I'm happy telling colleagues that one day I'm channeling the 'Hitchcock heroine' look, I'm not always convinced I look like I mean business whilst doing it.

My solution this season is Hobbs. Known for its very British approach to design and tailoring, I've always coveted the brand's signature DNA which is polished yet practical, sleek and sophisticated - definitely what I need to be taken seriously. Added to that, Hobbs is looking more directional than ever for Autumn Winter 13 - now we're talking trends! When scanning the online store my eye was roving between the 60's style shift dresses to the over-sized outerwear with mannish cuts - how very Antonio Berardi - when I was distracted by the most marvellous pink cocoon coat. Needless to say I had more than enough options when compiling this edit, which is why I've broken it down into easy to mix and match ensembles rather than my usual ten key pieces.

I hope you enjoy my edit, the majority of pieces are available to buy online and in stores now but there are a few sneak peeks of styles coming soon. I'd advise joining the waiting lists now...

Outfit number one centres around the Lacey cocoon coat in shade-of-the-season sugary pink. With a coat this bright I'd keep the rest of my ensemble simple with monochrome tones. The quilted skirt adds texture whilst flashing a hint of leopard print sock over the top of my ankle boot is a playful touch I wouldn't be able to resist no matter how serious the boss.

One of AW 13's biggest trends is for texture, whether its for vinyl, fur or fluffy knits. I've clashed this pastel pink cashmere sweater with a leather full circle skirt, the Teddie fur bag, and the high shine Brigitte loafer from sister label NW3. Experimentation is key to this trend and anything goes as long as it has that ‘touch me’ feeling.

For my third outfit the star of the show is the over-sized Phillipa car coat which is coming soon. This mannish silhouette is something you'll be wearing for years to come and in its classic beige shade its definitely a investment piece. Pair with black trousers, the Ivette ponyskin effect tee (also coming soon) and leopard print courts. A burnished burgundy bag adds a welcome pop of colour to this chic, timeless ensemble.

My holiday-ready manicure with Boutique Spa

After my disastrous midnight packing (if you can laughably call panic throwing half your wardrobe into a suitcase packing) for Copenhagen last month, I promised myself that when I jetted off to Marrakech this week I would be more organised, better prepared and above all things holiday-ready. For me this means looking and feeling my best - and for any girl this invariably involves a trip to the spa.

Never one to really pamper myself unless the occasion calls for it I decided to stay local and contacted the team at Boutique Spa to see if they could help me out with my plan. After they kindly obliged, I found myself at their Bayswater address today undergoing their Classic Manicure treatment thanks to their talented technicians.

Upon arrival I was greeted with a seemingly never ending wall of nail varnish which was both heaven and hell - how would I ever choose a colour? Luckily my lovely therapist was on hand to help and was more than happy to pick out the brighter shades when I told her I was going on holiday. We settled on a punchy shade of coral from OPI before I was taken to the manicure stations to take of the dark blue shade which I'd layered on thick (sorry about that) over the past week.

Miss Selfridge Launches The Collective

As a Miss Selfridge affiliate I'm excited to announce the launch of The Collective; a capsule collection for AW 13 which takes inspiration from the must-have, transitional items every girl needs in her wardrobe.

Inspired by simple 90's styling, the collection features deluxe sporty shapes from sharp woven tees to joggers, long line bomber and biker jackets and separates that provide easy outfit options for when you just don't know what to wear in the morning! Curved shoulders, which were so popular on outerwear this season, update T- shirt dresses while jersey becomes more draped and skirts have asymmetric details and wrapped fronts.

The colour palette of bright whites and high shine metallic's are a welcome breath of fresh air for autumn / winter whilst sports fabrics, perforated surfaces and airtex all accentuate the sport luxe vibe. This is accentuated with colour pop injections of bubblegum pink and vivid lime. Meanwhile, leather pieces with lace panellings, and faux leather trimmings, add a grungy edge for all those channelling the punk trend this Autumn.

The Collective campaign is modelled by fashion bloggers, Emily Lawrence from Emilydivine, Olivia Purvis from WhatOliviaDid and Lily Melrose from Llymlrs who were all given free reign when styling each look.

Available in online now and in all stores from Tuesday 24th September prices will range from £16 - £95.

London Fashion Week Newbies: The New Labels Making Waves for SS14

As promised here's my second post from the designer showrooms at London Fashion Week and this time I'm focusing on the wave of new brands coming through for Spring / Summer 2014. Please note this is by no means a comprehensive list of new launches - just a few labels which caught my eye thanks to their unique design that I wanted to share with you!

First up, newly launched footwear label Kult Domini had me intrigued as soon as I walked past and saw their inventive display - it turns out the designer Kate and her partner have just opened a furniture store, loving restoring vintage pieces. I was drawn in further when I saw the 70's style brogues and sandals in beautiful natural tones of taupe, pistachio, grey, mint and white in textured leather - in other word's they've nailed it on the head with a collection that will sit perfectly alongside the majority of the ready-to-wear colourways and trends for S/S 14. The LFW website further informs me that the collection is actually entitled ‘Syreni’ and is inspired by the currents of the sea - with their chunky curved heels. Either way I'm hooked, please say they do size 3's!

Other lust-worthy labels included new London based scarf label Ottoline, designed by former model Hayley Menzies and inspired by muse Lady Ottoline Morrell, an influential British aristocrat. The debut line of silk scarves, all trimmed with a hand embroidered gold chain, is named 'Acid Safari'. The scarves we're beautifully soft and lightweight - just the kind of thing I'd take on holiday with me to wear of an evening - and particular favourites included the exotic tiger eye prints.

Accesssorise Me: London Fashion Week SS14 Highlights

On the last day of London Fashion Week I hit the exhibition at Somerset House to see what the host of jewellery, accessory and ready-to-wear brands exhibiting had in store for us for Spring Summer 2014.

I saw some truly beautiful collections so I decided to split these images across two posts. What you see below is the best of returning exhibitors and Little Girl Lost favourites, whilst the later post will cover new brand launches for the season.

My first stop of the day was to jewellery label Fiona Paxton (thanks to the lovely team there who gave me a tote bag to carry all my press releases in) which I've had a love affair with as long as I can remember. This October marks the fifth birthday of Fiona Paxton and to celebrate the brand is collaborating with East End destination lifestyle store Pitfield. Getting back to the collection, pattern and texture remain the inspiration, with many pieces featuring stones hand beaded onto fabric to create the draped collars the brand is best known for. These sit next to more sculptural pieces such as metal stack rings and earrings in gold, rose gold and silver highlighted with Swarovski. I was particularly drawn to the antique pink stones as I think they'll work perfectly with next summer's romantic streak.

Collections by super-shoe designer Sophia Webster and directional jewellery brand Lola Rose Boutique followed, as well as a trip to see Halo & Co (you may not have heard of them yet but if jewellery did couture they would be top dog) and lastly I couldn't resist the allure of Maria Francesca Pepe. MFP's S/S 14 line 'Tropical Souvenir' takes inspiration from vintage postcards sent from exotic locales - think Jamaica, Africa, Brazil, Barbados and Hawaii - for a collection that is both fierce and refined.

I hope you enjoy my edit, there's more coming soon - in the meantime check out my instagram to see more great brands and my LFW outfits.

LFW Ones To Watch: Hellen Van Rees & Lug Von Siga

During day two of London Fashion Week (I'm running behind on the edits sorry) I saw two presentations at Fashion Scout which really impressed me. These designers are future ones to watch for sure.

Central St Martins graduate Hellen Van Rees debuted her S/S 14 collection 'FUZZLAYERGLOSSBOX' with her first solo presentation at LFW. Boxy shapes on top with sheer and vinyl fabric panels dominated the earlier pieces, whilst the signature style tweed of the designer cropped up on a basket raffia style weave in multi colours. The rest of the palette was in stark black and white, with structural details and pleats to keep things interesting. Dresses were the big success story of the collection - a backless halter-neck design in black was a particular favourite, alongside maxi lengths with short trains.

Meanwhile, Turkish designer Gül AÄŸiÅŸ returned to LFW for the second time with her brand LUG VON SIGA. The SS14 collection was inspired by the rich cultural and historical heritage of her home region and AÄŸiÅŸ also took the show as an opportunity to express political issues with her own personal interpretation of the Gezi Park protests and anti-government resistance. Expressing ‘the anger within’ with a collection entitled ‘tribal attitudes’, Gül’s original starting point was designing tribal masks. These quickly developed into unique prints in a palette of caramel, beige, black, white and coral red. Overall the collection had a sports luxe aesthetic with fabrics such as silk, crepe and leather dominating. There were touches of Christopher Kane in some of the prints and cut out dresses, whilst the decorative elements - leather trimmings, laser-cut embroidery and futuristic metal bead work – were reminiscent of Emilio Pucci last season. Particular highlights included oh so wearable monochrome tailored separates and dresses trimmed with long swishy fringes which brought down the house with applause.

Warehouse launch Style Me If You Can campaign

As a Warehouse affiliate I'm excited to announce that the brand has officially launched their Autumn/Winter Style Me If You Can campaign. The idea behind the new season campaign is ingenious - through a competition run earlier this year, Warehouse customers became the stylists of the collection - you picked the place and you choose the look. The campaign videos follow a stylish city girl throughout a day in her life, and to support their 90 minute delivery service the videos see her life change nine times, or every 90 minutes.

I love the styling in the videos and Warehouse is absolutely wowing me this season already. You can really tell their designer's have pulled out all the stops to make this the most on-trend range yet. Not to mention the collaboration with Bonnie Rakhit which already cleaned out my bank account (oh but I needed that paisley jacket!). However, the thing I love most about Warehouse is that no matter how trend-led the clothing looks they always keep their customers lifestyles in mind - for example dresses, skirts and shorts are never too short to wear to the office and the knits are always warm enough for British winter time.

Check out at the video for more info for inspiration on how to style your AW 13 Warehouse wardrobe and to see what's coming into stores soon - and in the spirit of Style Me if You Can I've made an edit of my favourite pieces below from what's currently in stock. These are the pieces I'm craving for Autumn including checks for punk attitude, touchy-feely texture, and cosy knits.

Kilian Kerner's UK Debut

Berlin based designer Kilian Kerner presented his first ever UK presentation at the Waldorf Hilton this London Fashion Week. His off-schedule presentation for the ‘God Save the Queen' collection, took inspiration from the opulent settings within the Palm Court Room at the hotel.

The red carpet inspired collection, comprised of 29 looks displayed on stylised mannequins as well as live models displaying some of the most elaborate designs. Classic, full-length dresses juxtaposed with innovative designs featuring geometric patterns, swinging skirts combined with crop tops as well as white calla lily flowers appliqued onto silk dresses.

Volume and layering were also key to the collection with full billowing skirts composed of layers of luxurious chiffon fabric. The colour palette was soft with cream, white, deep blue, and black the main tones fused with glossy metallics, brocades and sequins in gold and copper.

Show note: Unique jewellery was provided by luxury label AKKESOIR, whilst guests were serenaded by jazz pianist Greg Foat on arrival.

London Fashion Week Day One Highlights

Day One of London Fashion Week. I wasn't even supposed to be here, how did this happen? Because I'm a glutton for punishment and no matter how many times I suffer aching bones and cut up feet I keep doing this to myself. Let me set the scene - I was never planning on doing LFW this year, its a week before I go on holiday and I don't want to catch a cold just in time for it as I invariably do each season. Last minute I take on a freelance job covering shows for Access Fashion, cue wardrobe meltdown as I realize I have nothing to wear, at least not for all five days, and especially in the monsoon season weather London is currently experiencing. Why won't it stop raining!

I started my day with a catwalk presentation at Fashion Scout from upcoming designer Yifang Wan. Outerwear pieces were definitely highlights, including wide lapel blazers and knee length coats layered over mirco dresses in monochrome, sparkly grey and glitzy green.

I then took to Somerset House for the Daks show which took a surprising direction with its SS14 collection - transporting the audience to the French Riviera. Gorgeous dusty rose shades, slinky black backless dresses and pieces in the brands House Check amazed. These were accessorized with headscarves piled high like turbans, cat eye sunglasses and billowing chiffon capes.

After taking in the Pop-Up Shop at Somerset House which I blogged about earlier in the week, I took in another show at the Royal Opera House, this time for Design by Shanghai. For one day only, this unique showspace, which was designed like a garden, brought eleven of China's hottest design talents to London.

Sadly I missed out on my last catwalk of the day as Eudon Choi was full to capacity - someone clearly hadn't done the maths as the queue was still 100 people deep when the doors closed - but hopefully there will be more to see tomorrow. Roll on day two.

Mimi Berry: The New Collection Edit

Handbag and accessory label Mimi Berry launched its new Autumn Winter collection last week, much to my excitement. Need a reason to sit up and take note other than my say so? Well Mimi produces two seasonal collections a year of beautifully crafted leather bags made right here in the UK. Using Italian leather - but always the epitome of understated British quality and cool - it prides itself on supporting British manufacturing. Bravo! This ethos is certainly visible; designs are classic and there's no flashy branding to be seen here, instead details are all functional and scream 'investment piece' and 'future vintage must-have in the making'.

Another reason? The new collection is ticking all the major AW 13 trend boxes, with both classic and new Mimi shapes updated in new catwalk-inspired colours of sienna, damson, olive green, pale gold, sky blue and giraffe - leopard prints less showy but no less sophisticated cousin.

Also, if you're thinking about replacing your classic shopper or tote bag this season Mimi probably has the answer to your needs in classic black or tan, likewise there are some great long strap styles like 'Frank', 'Peggy' and 'Eric' pictured below. My favourite piece of the season though has to be 'The Daniel' pouch / clutch bag pictured below in giraffe. I can just see the simplistic and utilitarian - but oh so tactile bag - being worn for LFW, tucked under the arm and worn with an over sized coat naturally!

Bio: Mimi was established in 2001 by Central Saint martins graduate Mimi Berry. The brand grew from early beginnings in Spitalfields market and ten years on, both Mimi’s design studio and showroom are located in Bethnal Green, east London. The brand is stocked at John Lewis, Toast, Anthropologie, Fenwick of Bond Street and Tate Modern in the UK and a host of international stockists.

Muubaa Pop-Up Shop & AW 13 Sneak Peek

As part of the Pop Up Britain initiative, leather brand Muubaa is opening its first ever pop up shop for one week only in Central London. An exclusive selection of the current Autumn Winter 2013 collection, including lines not yet available in any London store, will be on sale in the Piccadilly-based store. I'm heading over on Thursday to get my leather fix but if you can't make it down to London I've compiled a little taster of the full range below.

The new Muubaa collection is looking more trend-led than ever, tapping into some of Autumn's biggest colour stories such as oxblood and wine inspired tones, ombre and tie dye effects, and an array of metallics including an amazing silver collarless jacket and statement bikers in patent leather. Don't forget the textures either, as detachable fur collars and Aztec embroidered fabrics try to steal the limelight from the classic biker.

Muubaa still manages to make black look edgy though, especially on laser cut jackets and shorts, pencil dresses, skater skirts, tank tops, and the convertible trench coat below - crop it like its hot if you dare. My Favourites for the season? The Salazar ombre biker in forest green (what a beauty) and the Azana collar tip shirt, to be worn under my dungarees and tucked into pencil skirts. Finally, the Ceylon skater dress in Antique Silver is ideal for Autumn's big punk trend. Just pair with plaid and denim for a 90's grunge look or dress it up with a smokey eye for a night out.

Friday Treat Time: Shimla Jewellery's Charm Offensive

Shimla Jewellery - the brand famous for its beaded crystal and hematite jewellery loved by the A list - has launched a new line of spiritually inspired luxury charm bracelets for Autumn. These semi precious, hand made styles are all adorned with charms, some of which are said to ward off bad luck like the Hamsa or the “Hand of Fatima,” a palm-shaped amulet recognised as a sign of protection in many societies throughout history. The Om symbol - a sacred mantra and mystical Sanskrit sound of Hindu origin - also features, alongside stone set wing and eye designs in beautiful agate and howlite.

My favourite piece - and the object of my desires this Friday treat time - is the Hand Of Fatima style in turquoise as seen below. It's a fantastic injection of colour for these final days of summer and will compliment my already extensive collection of turquoise pieces bought on holidays to Greece.

Taking Oriental Into Autumn With Ruby Rocks

One of summer's biggest trends for all things Oriental, is still going strong for Autumn and I for one couldn't be happier. I just can't resist the rich fabrics, detailed brocades and a kimono sleeve! My grandparents lived in Hong Kong for many years during the 50's and 60's, and as such their house is a treasure trove of furniture from the East - perhaps that's why I'm so drawn to this trend every time it comes back into fashion.

One brand successfully taking the Oriental trend into Autumn / Winter 2013 is young fashion label Ruby Rocks. When I visited their central London showroom last Friday I was impressed with how easily they had transitioned this key summer print into a new Autumn collection. There were brights like shocking pink, and an eye-catching cobalt blue but there were also rich gold's and classic black - a perfect foil for all those colourful and intricate prints fit for a modern day geisha girl. The jackets in particular look strong; a mix of sporty zip up jersey bombers, cropped bed jackets and silky short sleeve kimono's in vibrant teal, purple and red.

The dragon print is another highlight, re-worked for in black, navy and bright red with yellow and pink accents across zip up jackets, shorts, trousers, and a dipped hem shirt dress. It also features tube skirts and jumpers (see Monday's post on skirts and sweats) both key buys for the changeable Autumn weather. Match together for a bold fashion statement or pair with colour block separates in silks, satins, velvets and leather to match the decadent spirit of the trend.

Salt Resort Wear & My Holiday Wish List

Despite having just got back from Copenhagen, my next adventure is just around the corner and in three weeks time I'll be jetting off to exotic, and hopefully sunny, Marrakech. One lesson learnt from my frantic midnight 'what the hell am I going to wear' packing for Denmark was the value of planning, and packing ahead. I'm keen not to repeat my previous mistake and already I've been creating mood boards on Pinterest and scouring the resort-wear collections for the perfect holiday wardrobe.

When I heard about new shopping destination, Salt Resort Wear, I immediately checked it out with an eye to my capsule holiday wardrobe - after all its so hard to find a brand, or a whole website for that matter, that specialises in luxury resort and swimwear all year round. I was not disappointed - the London store and online boutique is a fashion emporium housing resort wear, ready-to-wear and accessories from an array of international designers. I love the mix of edgy labels on offer such as We Are Handsome and Mara Hoffman who are already well established favourites on Little Girl Lost. These sit alongside some famous names like Matthew Williamson, and new discoveries for me such as Koku, Eugina Kim, Lizzie Fortunato and Vix.

I've selected my ten key holiday buys from what's currently online - five pieces to ensure I look cool round the pool, and five for dressing up of an evening whilst staying true to my love of intense print and exquisite embellishment.

Bio: Salt Resort Wear is the brainchild of globetrotting style guru Stephanie Alameida. After noticing a large gap in the market for a luxury, multi-brand resort wear lifestyle store, Stephanie decided to launch the UK’s first resort wear boutique situated on London’s Walton Street.

On Trend Right Now: Skirts & Sweats

I'm loving the last burst of sunshine right now in London, mainly because its OK to still be wearing my standard summer outfit of maxi dress and flip flops. However, if 25 years of living in Great Briton has taught me anything its that the weather here is changeable to say the least. Today it may be sunny, tomorrow it could feel like the start of a new ice age. Dressing for the change in seasons is always a challenge so with that in mind I've decided that the current on-trend skirt and sweatshirt combination is going to be my new best friend this September.

Skirts are going to be huge this A/W in all their varying forms. However as I'm only 5ft 1 I'm going to stick to mini lengths and knee length tube / pencil skirts, lest I be lost under meters of fabric and pleats. Whistles camo jacquard skirt is my number one investment buy, but I've also got my eye on Topshop's more colourful version and neoprene leopard print jumper. Rika's 'Iron Girl' sweatshirt in black is already hanging in my closet waiting for its big moment. I'm going to be wearing the trend with bare legs, sturdy ankle boots and the new, seductive claret coloured lip. Will you be wearing skirts & sweats for Autumn?
